Exhaust valve

The exhaust valves are located in the cylinders of the engine block. The cylinders are also known as combustion chambers because this is where the combustion of fuel takes place. The inlet valves of the cylinders open to allow an air-fuel mixture into the chamber. Here, ignition then takes place. The exhaust valves open so that the exhaust gases created can leave the cylinder. A defect in the exhaust valves has negative consequences for the car's engine. It is therefore important that the valves are in good condition. At Winparts you can easily find the right exhaust valves for your car. Enter your complete car details on the website, so that we can show you the right car parts.

Inside the cylinders of the engine block are inlet and exhaust valves. The inlet valves open to allow an air-fuel mixture to flow into the cylinders. This causes the pistons in the cylinders to move downwards. The spark plugs then create a spark, which initiates the combustion of the fuel mixture. The gases created during combustion are forced out through the exhaust valves by the rising piston. Because the exhaust gases are very hot, this causes wear and tear on the exhaust valves. To prevent this, the valves are made of a special type of steel. They are also hollow inside and partially filled with sodium. The sodium absorbs the heat and cools it down through the up and down movement of the valve.

Exhaust valve fault

Exhaust valves can become defective over time. This has negative consequences for the car engine. The two most common defects are bent valves and burnt valves. A bent valve occurs when the piston makes contact with the valves. This prevents the cylinders from sealing properly. This can cause the exhaust valve to burn. Because the valve no longer closes properly, the hot gases can simply escape the combustion chamber. This leads to burnt valves. You can recognise defective exhaust valves by the following symptoms:

  • Poor engine performance
  • The engine noise is louder
  • The Check Engine light is on
  • A hesitant engine

Exhaust valve replacement

Replacing the exhaust valves is a complicated and time-consuming job. The entire engine block has to be disassembled. In addition, you need to remove parts such as the camshaft and cylinder head. This can make replacing this car part take a whole day.

Would you prefer to have the exhaust valves replaced by a specialist? Then simply order this part online at Winparts. Car parts are often cheaper online, than at the garage. You can then take the parts to the garage yourself. Then you only have to pay the installation costs.
