Oil pan

Crankcase ventilation
Crankcase ventilation is an important system that helps regulate pressure within the crankcase and remove harmful fumes. A properly functioning crankcase ventilation system prevents excessive pressure build-up and protects the engine from potential oil leaks and damage. Blockages or defects in the crankcase ventilation can lead to engine problems and increased emissions. Regular maintenance of this system is therefore crucial.
Core plugs
Core plugs are caps that seal the holes in the engine block. These holes are needed to ensure proper casting of the engine block. Core plugs have the added benefit of preventing damage to the engine when the coolant freezes. When the coolant freezes, it expands. This causes the freeze plugs to break. If the freeze plugs were not there, that force would hit the engine block, and the block would crack.
Sump gasket
The sump gasket ensures a good seal between the sump pan and the engine block. A worn or damaged crankcase gasket can cause oil leaks, leading to engine oil deficiency and serious engine damage. It is important to check and replace the sump gasket regularly to ensure an optimal seal and prevent leaks.
