A ratchet is an iconic piece of equipment in any garage. Even if you've never used one before, you're probably familiar with the sound. More importantly, a ratchet is just incredibly useful. The ratcheting mechanism allows you to tighten or loosen something when you turn it one way, and when you move it the other way, the ratchet becomes free, allowing you to reposition the handle. This allows you to tighten or loosen something without having to make complete rotations around it and without taking the ratchet off.
