You can read the oil level with an oil dipstick. Regularly checking the oil level and topping up the oil is very important. The engine oil ensures that the moving parts are lubricated, cooled and cleaned. If the parts are not lubricated enough, they will wear out faster and you risk damage to the engine and surrounding car parts. If the car has an old engine block that has already run many kilometers, it will use more oil than a car with a new engine block. In addition, excessive oil consumption can indicate leakage or wear. Therefore, try to check the oil level every month and top it up if necessary.
Read the oil dipstick
Reading the car's oil level is not difficult and you can do it yourself. Make sure that the car is on a straight surface as much as possible and that the car is turned off for at least 5 minutes. Then open the hood and look for the dipstick. The car's handbook indicates where it can be found. Remove the dipstick from the reservoir and clean it briefly with an old cloth. Then reinsert and remove the dipstick from the reservoir. The oil level can now be read. At the bottom of the dipstick are 2 lines marked, the maximum level and the minimum level. The oil level should be between these two marks. If the oil is below the minimum level, the oil must be topped up via the oil filler cap.
Oil dipstick broken
If the dipstick breaks, the broken part must be removed from the reservoir as soon as possible. If the broken part remains in the reservoir, it can cause damage to the car. You can often clearly see where it broke off from the top part of the broken dipstick. You can then remove it with a magnet or by draining the oil, such as with an oil change. Often the broken dipstick comes out of the reservoir together with the engine oil.
