Distributor & rotor arm

The distributor rotor distributes the spark from the ignition coil to the different cylinders. It's a system primarily used in cars manufactured before the 1990s. The distributor receives the spark from the ignition coil through the centre contact point. The rotor, usually connected to the camshaft or a transverse shaft on the gearbox, rotates in sync with the engine's revolutions.

The distributor rotor delivers the spark from the ignition coil to the engine cylinder. With each rotation of the engine, the coil provides the total number of sparks needed for combustion. In a four-stroke engine, the rotor often has half the rotational speed of the crankshaft. The distributor cap houses contact points that correspond to the firing order of the engine. This can be four, six, eight, or even ten.

The distributor and rotor are equipped with copper contact points. These are not as durable as modern ignition materials. As a result, both parts need to be replaced relatively often. To ensure a smooth-running engine, we recommend replacing the rotor and distributor cap every 60,000km. Fortunately, these parts are relatively inexpensive.
