Below are some of the most important categories for the fuel system:

  • Fuel tank: The fuel tank is usually located at the rear of the car, under the rear seat or at the level of the rear wheels. The tank stores fuel and is usually made of plastic to save weight and maximize space. An electric fuel pump inside the tank supplies fuel to the engine.
  • Fuel pump: The fuel pump is the main component of the fuel system. This pump transports fuel from the tank to the engine. If the fuel pump is not working properly, starting problems can occur.
  • Fuel filter: The fuel filter purifies the fuel before it goes to the engine. It prevents dirt or contaminants from reaching the injectors.
  • Fuel hose: There are two fuel hoses: the supply line and the return line. The supply line carries fuel from the fuel pump to the engine. The return line carries excess fuel back to the tank.
  • Mass air flow meter: An mass air flow (MAF) meter is sometimes also called an air flow sensor. This part is located at the end of the air filter housing in your car's fuel system. The name of the part says it all, it measures how much air is sucked into the combustion chamber.

Is your car having trouble starting, or is the engine not running smoothly? Then it is important to have the fuel system checked. Are you looking for a solution? Then consider visiting a professional mechanic.
